In his essay “Muhammad Ali Then and Now,” Dick Schaap shares his opinions on legendary boxer Muhammad Ali. Dick was good friends with Muhammad Ali, he knew him well. In his essay he is trying to say that there is more to people than what meets the eye. He is saying that Muhammad Ali was two faced. The Muhammad that his friends knew was not the same person that that public knew him to be. Although he changed his name and his religion, he never really changed as a person. His opinion is important because it does not only apply to Muhammad, but too American society as a whole.

I agree with the opinion because it shows one of the main opinion of Dick Schaap which was that people change yet they still stay the same person. The person also gave great examples with Muhammid Ali by relating to the text and by having the American society as another example. One thing that could make the opinion stronger is to put more evidence from the text on how the example of American society. 1131
ReplyDeleteMuhammad ali isn't really two faced, he probably doesn't care what anybody else thinks of him. He probably didn't enjoyed not caring about anybodies opinion.

ReplyDeleteThis is true in retrospect to Dick schaap's actual opinion on Muhammad. Muhammad did start off as a cocky young man and mature into a respecting adult. He was influenced by his religion in many ways and probably influenced his decisions and views.
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this. I dont think that he was a two faced person. He was a guy who thought he was the best and thought that he should be treated the best until he realized how other people looked at him when he got denied at a restraunt.

I disagree with this because, the author of this blog said that Ali was two faced. Ali is not at all two faced. He just recognizes that he has changes going on around him. In this he also recognizes the change that has adapted to him. Over all he is a young man with a new and wider prospective on his life.
ReplyDeletein the writing of Dick Schaap on Muhammad Ali. he showed that in Muhammads early life he was an exsolent boxer and loved to have fun and get people to laugh. he also held his head very high. even after words in the 1960 when he got back from the olimpics he held him self in high regard. but the writer aldo shows that as life goes on Cassius lost track of life in a way by jioning up with Malcom X but later on turning his back on him. in such time he may have changed to the public by jioning Malcom X but when Dick Schaap came to see him he still had a hight look on life. It shows that even to some he was the same but to others he had changed. so in closing i do agree that Muhammad ALi was two faced to the public as well as his friends. 1637
ReplyDeleteI disagree with this, because well yeah he wasn't really two faced. Everyone changes in a way whether it's good or bad..but it still made him figure out who he really is and what he wants and just the way he thinks about other things.

The reason that makes me to disagree is, this respons's view of Ali's personality. as it says, ali didn't change as a person, but my opinion on this is different. Ali has changed as the same rout as other people, in the Mohammad Ali's essay, the essay is representing Ali as a popular person who is matured and become adult, but still remains the same.
