In Joseph Conrad’s passage from Heart of Darkness, the narrator, Marlow, uses colorful language to help readers understand his view of nature. “ The air was warm, thick heavy, sluggish. There was no joy in the brilliance of sunshine.” These few sentences can help the reader easily understand what the surroundings are like and what the narrator feels through the negative words he uses such as, “warm,” and “sluggish. Not only does the author of this passage give us a clear view of what Marlow is seeing and by the detailed language, but he also uses diction and figurative language to express the attitude of Marlow.
Personification is one type of figurative language that Conrad uses to really give readers a clear image of the darkness of the surrounding plant life. At one point Marlow describes how the nature he is surrounded by brings back memories from the past and says that, “It looked at you with a vengeful aspect…” This personification does not bring a sense of tranquility or joy, rather , it’s an unnerving sentence that gives a very different view of nature than what is usually portrayed in most stories. The entire landscape as a whole seems to be haunting. It seems to be the hunter and Marlow the prey.
Conrad also uses similes to show what Marlow feels during his trek inside the maze of thick foliage. He starts by describing the vast amount of tall trees that are, “…hugging the bank against the stream, crept the little begrimed steamboat, like a sluggish beetle crawling on the floor of a lofty portico.” He goes on to say that, “ It made you feel very small, very lost…” Although he describes the boat being like a beetle, he starts describe how he feels as though he also is the beetle. This is not altogether a bad thing because small creatures can easily pass by without much harm done to them. While feeling lost and small he says, “ yet it was not altogether depressing, that feeling.”

From my view I think the reason why the Geats choose to burn the treasures is because to give some back to the dragon. Since the dragon had it first and just to respect it. Also, because Beowulf told them to burn the treasures.
Destroying and same time honoring the wealth of the king (Beowulf) is by cremating him and putting him the tower with the treasures. That mostly how the Geats honor their King ( Beowulf).

I think schaap’s opinion is saying that Muhammad Ali is famous as others like presidents. Both the president and Muhammad Ali have changed in many ways, but they still remain the same thing. Ali has been a self- prideful guy and trust him self that he would be the champion, and knows it. His confidential idea has been in his mind every time. This is what makes him cocky. He always wants to be victorious. Ali has matured through his career of boxing, but he still has the personality of being a winner and his confidence is still alive.
But it is not the only thing that is going on in his life when the writer talks about Ali. There are different things going on the society. Ali have not become to be a person who has changed him self completely. But partially, he has things in a society that he is a part of that let him made him to be a more matured person. This doesn’t mean that he has quit thing that he used to do, but growing, and remains the same.
The importance of this opinion might be the growth process of peoples in a different period of times. Ali was very prideful when he begins boxing and throughout his every boxing, he still is self- confident. When things get newer and fixed, you try to match up with that. Ali has put things aside that has to be change, he might need to do that, but it doesn’t mean he is new, he just has changed, the personality of Ali is still there with him self. You might be get push to remain your self to change, not to make your self another. All things around you in a society make people to go through a many different ways, you don’t just hold on to one or two things forever.

HIs opinion in writing about Mohummad Ali is that Ali really was a good guy but he turned into a bad guy because people were racist in his time. They were rude to him and his people and therefore he reacted by becoming the Ali we know now. He was innocent but he hated racism. So Dick pointed out. that because the white people were racist he had to be someone else in order to not be hurt by that. His view was important because it shows us how it was back then and how hard it was to be an innocent person like how Mohummad was back then, how he needed to change.

Dick Shaap’s opinion in “Muhammad Ali: Then and Now”, is that society has the ability to change a person, and in Ali’s case, for the worst. He started out as a brilliant young man, respectful and maybe even a bit naïve. However, as he began to grow and develop, he was influenced by the circumstances in the world, especially from the issue of racism in America. His point-of-view is basically that society can make a person turn out to be someone they’re not. For example, Ali began to involve himself with major people and organizations such as the Black Muslims and Malcolm X. Yet he was the same person inside.
His view is important because he shows that though Ali is more upfront about his views on racism, he still acts like how he did when he was a beginner boxer. Nothing has changed inside of him, but because society forced him, he had to change and be a little rougher on the outside. Schaap’s opinion is that the issues of the world and especially the conditions that was in the 60’s greatly influenced a person’s character, especially Muhammad Ali’s.
Although through the course of his life Muhammad's beliefs and ideas changed and blossomed, he still was like a kid. His mannerisms, confidence, arrogance, all parts of him which would never change, and never will. As Schaap put it, he is "so different, but still the same."

This message is important and relevant since America has drastically changed since the time of Muhammad Ali, but some things of legacy still remain over the two score years that have passed. We see it's relevance in the fact that we have an African American president, yet still have some racial discrimination toward minorities like the event of immigration green cards or other loop holes that are constitutional to still discriminate. This would still show that attitude that Muhammad was fighting against way back in the 60s occurring still to this day.

The opinion of the writer of “Muhammad Ali Then and Now” is how Ali became to be. He thinks that Ali is a great guy and is nice. His attitude changes in the ring, but if you really get to know him, he will be a good friend. He saw Ali grow from an 18 year old to be a Heavy Weight Champion. His appearance and reputation have changed, but his personality stayed the same.
The opinion is important because the writer has his point of view on Ali, and anyone can have the same point of view.
Well the author is saying that Muhammad Ali has changed in so many major ways but in the small ways he is the same. I guess that is like the world. We try to change it in major ways but in the small ways it is exactly the same. No matter how much we try to change the world it will always stay the same. When you look at the bigger picture it is different but if you took a closer look at it, the world is the same. Muhammad tried to gain success and make his life better but ended up with more problems, just as the world tries to be at peace but ends up getting into more wars because of it.

In the easy Muhammad Ali Then and Now by Dick Scrap is about Muhammad’s life and how he changes over time but he is still that same person he used Ali as an expel of how when he first met him he was use to the life of the slums and poorer end of Americans. As time went on he changed and adapted to the life of the rich. He learned all the tricks and how he didn’t really care the value of money as he use. But all along he was still the same old kid that started boxing. His outward side of home changed but inside he was still the same old Ali
His opinion at the time was very important because the society at the time was very much like Ali. They where changing the people the racism and rights where changing. But deep down inside American was still the same even with the law’s they made and how they said they where the home of the free and land of the brave. In “Muhammad Ali Then and Now,” Dick Schaap describes Ali as a young man who has a lot of confidence and acts pretty cocky. In the beginning of the essay, Schaap writes about how Ali is a some-what innocent, clear minded guy who gives his all to be the best that he can be. His actions are compared to that of a little child by his innocence and his chivalry. Throughout the essay, slight changes in his personality and in him altogether, begin to show or are just obvious. Basically, Schaap just writes about a cocky, young man who grows up, matures, and does things that he thought he would never do.
His main opinion is how Ali had changed almost everything about himself and yet he was still the same. This is important because it basically shows how people in general are when they begin to grow up and mature. It’s sort of how if you had a best friend when you were little, you moved away, and then you came back ten years later and saw them. They are practically still the same, yet they’re so different. SO in the essay, we got a first hand experience of seeing how this boy was when he left Kentucky and how he molded into the man he came to be.

In his essay he is trying to say that there is more to people than what meets the eye. He is saying that Muhammad Ali was two faced. The Muhammad that his friends knew was not the same person that that public knew him to be. Although he changed his name and his religion, he never really changed as a person. His opinion is important because it does not only apply to Muhammad, but too American society as a whole.

In the essay “Muhammad Ali Then and Now,” is Dick Schaap who personally knew Muhammad Ali, has a very personal opinion about Ali. His opinion is that even though Muhammad Ali went through a lot and experienced so much he never really changed as a person. Not matter how much he accomplished he was still Cassius Clay at heart. He can change his religion and his name but he is still the same guy. Dick Schaap states, “He is so different now. He is so much the same.” Through time he never changed on the inside.
The author’s opinion matters because it teaches us the lesson that no matter how far you go in life that you can always stay true to yourself. You can grow as a person but staying true to who you are in life matters the most because you mature and grow into a better person.

EB White says that you need to include more of your opinions rather that just telling about his life. It’s a writers duty to include his opinion if not, its not an essay. All Dick does is tell about Ali and his life, he doesn’t have much of his opinion in it. EB White is the real writer, he knows it all.

The story by E.B.White was telling all writers, that they should write to how the feel, and write down their opinions. The story on Muhammad Ali was focusing on his appearance as a person, not what he was really like. According to White, it should have been what the writer thought, and not what he was visualizing. A quote White had said was, “A true writer always plays to an audience of one,” this is a quote that all writers should consider within their writings.
I really believe this is important because it is.
“Mohammed Ali Then and Now” by Dick Schaap is an essay written about the infamous fighter from the writers point of view. According to E.B. White writers need to incorporate their opinion in their various works. By giving his opinion on Ali’s choices, Schaap fulfilled his duty as a writer. Throughout the essay Schaap gives his opinion about Ali’s choices and actions, such as his friendship with Malcolm Little. In the Essay Schaap makes it clear that he thinks highly of the champion.
